Redneck Regatta and Kick-Ass Paddle
Rules and Information

REDNECK REGATTA: Home Made Class - Begins at Wards Landing, 1 mile north of Lovey’s Landing, and finishes at Lovey’s. Start time is scheduled for 2 pm Saturday, August 30. This class is open to home made floats, rafts, boats, tubes, or other floating devices. No registered boats unless hand made by participant. Commercially made boats, hulls, floats, can be used if they are used principally for floatation only and the deck is built on top of the floatation. (Unless hand made by participant, all canoes, Kayaks, paddle boats, etc. enter race from Colusa).

KICK-ASS PADDLE: registered and non-registered class vessels - from Colusa State Park to Lovey’s Landing. (A parking or launch fee could be charged if you go into the park. Consider parking outside and walk-in.) Start time is scheduled for 12:30 pm. All boats will be operated by no stored means of propulsion, only human, animal, sun, wind or any combination can be used. No use of batteries, combustibles, corn whiskey, or compressed air.

All state laws, rules and regulations must be observed. Sutter County Sheriff has offered to help our event run safely. Due to miscellaneous river danger, all participants must wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket during the water events. All participants must observe guidance by the event referees and staff. No persons under 18 are allowed without parent’s permission and must be accompanied by a parent approved adult. All participants must sign release of liability form.

Entry fee is $2 for either event. The Redneck Regatta will have 1st, 2nd, 3rd, place prizes in three categories. Best boat, (most creative and eye catching) best crew (most eye catching),and best time. The Colusa Kick- Ass paddle will have 1st, 2nd, 3rd, place prizes for the fastest time in the two categories- human powered and combination powered. No placement will be allowed in the Kick-Ass paddle 2 1/2 hours after its start, or 1 hour after the start of the Redneck Regatta. Participants should check in with Lovey’s by 11am on the day of the competition for updates, possible changes on the start times, and prizes to be given out for placing.

THE START: Registration numbers must be shown on a highly visible place. Line-up for the start must be 5 minutes before start time. The starting line will be marked by flags on both side of the canal entering the river. If the mouth of canal is over crowded, the starter boat, or referee, will direct boats in numerical order according to there registration numbers. In such a case, the start will be in 2 minute intervals. No boat shall interfere with the timely start of any other boat. A passing boat over- taking another boat has the right of way. Failure to follow any rules, laws etc., will be assessed with time delays or removal from the event. Good sportsmanship must prevail!

TIMING: Boats will be timed over the course. Official times and winners will be reported around 7:00pm at the Lovey’s Landing Beer Garden

FINISH LINE: Will be an imaginary line from the front Lovey’s dock extending across to the opposite side of the river, perpendicular to the bank.

POST RACE: After crossing the finish line pull up and tie off along open dock areas. Judges will be on dock to view best boat and best crew. Lovey’s launch will be used to haul boats out of river according to dock master’s directions. Lovey’s staff reserves right to prioritize boats to be hauled out.
